Heidi’s Priotities
Increasing teacher support so all students can achieve their potential- Lansing has great teachers. They need resources to ensure all students can equitably receive educational resources to reach their highest potential.
Trades and STEM education to prepare for careers of tomorrow- The challenges of tomorrow will require critical thinking to engineer creative solutions. Heidi has a B.S. and M.S. and over 20 years of experience as a Latina working in the sciences and directly applying trades to solve real world problems. Everyone is talking about trades, and with experience as a site foreman, wildland firefighter and UAV operator, Heidi knows how to integrate these options into education and careers.
Removing barriers and increase opportunities in athletics and enrichment- These programs support the “village” that is the school environment. Coaches, literacy specialists, lunch staff, librarians, band, choir and art teachers all add to the trusted adult network and positive school environment that draws in students and families.
Sustainable facilities and operations- The next few years will bring tough financial choices. Heidi has over 20 years of leadership experience including review of contracts and managing budgets.
Libraries in all student buildings- In 2024, Heidi led efforts with other parents to protect library resources, including staff and central library spaces, in new buildings. She is the only candidate that advocated to protect these literacy resources.
